On Wednesday, May 29, 2019, the Vidant Wellness Center offered free work out sessions for older adults, honouring the 26th Annual National Senior Health and Fitness Day.

The event was celebrated at 1,000 locations, on the same day, across the country including senior centers, retirement communities, park and recreation departments, hospitals, health clubs, houses of worship, various community locations and health departments. The senior citizens actively participated in the fitness event. More than 10,000 senior adults took part in the activity.

The event is organized every year on the last Wednesday in the month of May. The activities included from walking tours, health fairs to demonstration of small group exercise in community senior centers. Majority of the events included physical activity or exercise and also information related to senior subjects. Furthermore, a contest was organized for adults from the age group of 50 and above to select a theme for the 26th event and the winner of the theme contest was rewarded with a cash prize of $350.

The activities also included Zumba, Tai Chi and line dancing. The activities were designed according to the health of seniors, which could improve their flexibility, mobility, posture and balance.

Participants expressed their joy by stating that they enjoyed the sessions. Moreover, the exercise specialists noted a positive effect among the participants.
